Head of Product Design @ Uptime.app
Uptime is a microlearning mobile app designed to help users learn faster by providing rich, engaging 5-minute summaries—known as “Hacks”—from books, courses, documentaries, and podcasts.
While the app initially received positive reviews and favorable media coverage, it faced challenges with conversion, retention, organic growth and establishing a sustainable monetization model. These issues posed a hurdle as Uptime sought the growth metrics necessary to secure its Series-A funding.
I started with user research to gain a better understanding of Uptime's users. Through a mix of interviews and prototype tests, I uncovered issues with how the core value of the app was communicated, where users dropped off during onboarding, and how the paywall disrupted the experience. These insights helped shape several of the A/B tests that followed.
We also conducted a Google Ventures-style design sprint to foster collaboration and generate innovative ideas. The sprint brought together a cross-functional team, including designers, developers, product managers, and the founders. We got a lot of valuable ideas that we would later explore in more depth.
Over my 2 years at Uptime, I ran dozens of A/B tests focused on conversion, retention, and engagement. Here are some of the most impactful ones.
I can only say good things about Cristian. He's one of the most talented product designers I worked with, and he also brings such good vibes when you need it. He's an extremely fast problem solver and he always brings a perspective that you forgot to look at. From ideation to optimising your product, Cristian is one of the best Product Designers out there.
